We just released an update today that addresses a number of issues, most of
them I mentioned in my update on Monday. Here are the highlights:
1) All of the performance pages can now be directly linked/bookmarked without
having to use the "Go to Linkable Page" link. This is much more
straight forward and should reduce some confusion about using the site.
2) The ability to filter stocks out in the performance pages resulted in symbols
not showing up in the table at the bottom of the page, symbols that were in the
"list" for the respective page. All symbols now show up in the table with symbols
that are filtered out for one reason or another flagged with a *.
3) The option to view RSf data in monthly intervals has been re-established and
expanded as an option on all performance pages.
4) And finally, we know support an optional red/blue color scheme for those that perfer it to
the standard red/green combination. Currently the home page and the correlation matrix do not
support the red/blue option, but all performance pages do. Your color selection should remain
set until you leave the site for a time.
We likely broke a few things while fixing others, so please let us know if something appears to
be operating incorrectly.
Thanks for your continued support.

27 comments so far (post your own)The RSf page was not intended to have a User Defined Column so that option will be removed from the menu. The monthly option will be back in the next few days. Thanks, Hugh.

The RSf page seems to be missing the monthly data and also the user defined column is missing.

nhp requested shaded colors for the Correlation Matrix. I would agree that would be beneficial. Its on the To-Do list.
csh requested an asset class column on the New Highs/Lows page. This is going to have to wait until we get a better method of categorizing funds. At that point a lot becomes possible.
I received an email about the new red/green color scheme not being r/g colorblind friendly. Anyone want to contribute any thoughts or suggestions please feel free. I have a couple of options Im looking at, but would welcome more.

In the New Highs New Lows page, it would be useful to add column showing the asset class of the underlying securities of the ETF (e.g. US equity, international equity, fixed income, commodity, etc.)

One thing I would find helpful would be to shade the colors in the correlation matrix similar to how the other performance tables are shaded. I find picking out colors much easier than seeing differences in the small numbers.

Travis, 3 and 5 year performance numbers are longer than what we generally focus on with this site, having felt that most of the predictive value of trailing returns is in the one year and under time frame. For this reason they may never make the main pages, but we can see about adding them to the screener and some other pages we have planned in the future. Thanks for the suggestion, Hugh

Is it possible to get a 3 and 5 year column added to the performance page?
Thanks

The problems with the Screener results were due to it being split between the two systems. It now runs mostly independent of the old system and appears to be trouble free - at least for the moment. Thanks for pointing out the issues.

Hi. When I click "Compare Performance of these Funds" after a screen on the beta site, I get the following error message:
Query failed : You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'sql FROM etf_screens WHERE ID = 92244' at line 1

Thanks for the heads up on the Screener problem with historical results. There is always something, but it has now been fixed. Hugh

FYI (BETA version), this error occurred when I tried to check the historical results of a screen:
Warning: require(...dat) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /... on line xxx
Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required '...dat' (include_path='.:.../screener.php on line xxx

On saving screens - Working on that. We want to enable users to save their favorite screens and/or data views so they can quickly get to the data they are looking for. Realistically, a few weeks out on this one.
The historical data will also be brought forward at some point soon.
Thanks.

Any chance of getting the option to save screens?
Also, will you be expanding the history database from July, 2009 to a more recent date?
Thanks,
TomG

Anon asked about some missing Direxion funds. One of the structural changes being made to the site is a new underlying price database (new source) that should solve several issues we have been encountering. There are a number of funds that will be added to our site soon.

A comment not linked to the beta version, but to the database of funds. Any particular reason why the funds DRN (Direxion Daily Real Estate Bull 3x), MWJ (Direxion Mid Cap Bull 3x), CZM (Direxion Daily China Bull 3x), LBJ (Direxion Daily Latin America 3x) are not included? (They have each their mirror Bear funds: DRV, MWN, CZI and LHB) Or is it simply a matter of us flagging those up to you for inclusion at some stage in the future?

According to the Direxion website the inception date for EDC is 12/17/08, so it looks like it took a couple of weeks to pick it up. I'll have to take a closer look at why, later.

Strange. EDC and EDZ are listed as 12/17 in Yahoo finance and they show up mid December on Bigcharts.com
I guess it won't matter in a week. I was just curious because data source reliability is a sticky point with me. Yahoo has already proven to have a few marks against it in this regard. Thanks for all your efforts with this website.

Travis, our database shows the first date is 12/30/08, or 249 trade days.

Curious why EDC/EDZ don't show a 1 year % on the performance page. They've traded about 53 weeks.

Travis, thanks for posting about the RSf page not being updated. It's now updated.

Your weekly and monthly RSF page has not seen an update for about a week.

just found this site, it's great! perhaps you can make a similar site but focused on equities? i would really like to see a correlation matrix for all the s&p 500 for instance.

re: More user defined columns.
I don't think we want to over complicate the basic report, although I see the benefit. We've considered a separate page that would allow the user to define what columns they wanted to see, including some calculated columns. But we've not taken that much beyond concept so don't look for it in the next few weeks. Thanks, though, for the suggestion. It has merit.

I tried the new version and the filtering functionalities are much better now than before. Any plan on making more than 1 user-defined column. Personally, I'd like 3 for things like Close, 50-day MA, 200-day MA as they would correspond to the way the data is currently presented in the graphs.

Thanks for pointing out the issue with the sorting. Corrected that and the link to the Correlation matrix. They were related. Everything had been working and the sorting was still working in Firefox, but not in Internet Explorer. My bad.

Hi, interesting new version. There will be some interesting new indicators. I tried the beta version, and the sorting ascending and descending arrows don't seem to work on this version. All the best with the implementation of the new version.
